Tony Womack Goes to Chicago Cubs!

Tony was released by the Cincinnati Reds a few weeks ago and is batting over .450 with the Iowa Cubs, AAA Affiliate of the Chicago Cubs.

We are all pulling for Tony and I'm positive he'll be up with the team soon!

His second shot of this season is a matter of time in my opinion and with others...

Goin' Live on the Computer System...

The Guilford County Register of Deeds office will "Go-Live" with the new software system through Business Information Systems (BIS) on Monday, July 17th!

We have been 'tweeking' the system, doing data conversion, with more workflow analysis, ordering hardware, receiving and switching out hardware, and beginning to train staff and users in the coming weeks!

The Good News is we will not have to close the office, as once thought, due to our great friends in Guilford County Information Services.

County Golf Tournament at Dawn Acres

The Guilford County Employee Golf tournmanent was held yesterday at Dawn Acres in Stokesdale.

Our team shot -9 under. I don't think we won, but we had a great time. I played with Greg Niles, Guilford County Planning Director, Commissioner Billy Yow, and Chris Jones (our Ringer!) Chris drove the green on several occasions and we shot -7 under on the back 9. I must admit I played horrible, but had a couple of good chips. We all had our moments. I took out insurance on my golf cart. Billy had some good shots and Greg Niles had strong holes on the back nine.

Thanks to Beth Anne in Planning for putting the event together!

HOPE: Spelled ....Relay for Life

Michelle, Elle, and I went to the Relay for Life event in Jamestown on Friday. They held their opening ceremonies, survivor's lap, and the walk.

The Good Deeds Team has raised $1000 for the American Cancer Society over the past two months. We had a very good showing of staff, family, and friends. City Park is a great place. Elle loved the train and many kids running around! I was touched by the sense of community and fellowship. This is so important for us to understand and experience. I walked around reading the names of survivors and those lost to cancer written on the luminaries spread throughout the track area. That was after I stuffed my gut with some great food and conversation. I look forward to doing this again next year!

Special thanks to Debbie Johnson for her hard work and leadership in organizing our involvement in the event.

GOIN' COUNTRY # 7- Hunting and Fishing- The Real Environmental Wackos!

Besides being the source of a multi-billion $$$ sticker industry...you need to get to know these groups.

Politically, Republicans take them for granted and Democrats need to spend some time on their websites. We'd all be a little better off. Yes, I'm a Environmental Wacko too....

DEBI DERRYBERRY paid a visit to the Greensboro Children's Museum yesterday for their 7th Anniversary. Elle belted out "Hola!" to get an autographed "Jimmy Neutron" pinata!

She's pretty impressive and we had a great time! Jimmy Neutron has great hair!

Wade Concedes Commissioner Race

Trudy Wade conceded the 2004 Commissioner Race today.

I want to congratulate John Parks and look forward to working with him over the next several years. John and I served on the BOC together from 1998 to 2000. He gets sworn into office just in time for the budget message this coming Thursday!

I'd also like to wish Trudy well in post-commissioner life. Trudy and I agreed on some things and disagreed on others. I apologized to Trudy recently related to a comment I made in the Rhino during the 2004 campaign. I basically said if she wanted to be chairman we could appoint her to a board or commission of the board. I never felt good about that comment and I made it out of frustration. It was a cheap shot. Given a Republican majority and different reality, Trudy could have done a fine job as chairman. She accepted my apology and it was much appreciated. Again, I wish her well.

John walks into a $22 million GCS budget request, jail issues, and a tough budget cycle! Let the fun begin...
