PREP groups have formed throughout the country to provide an opportunity for public/private partnerships and improved communication between the primary players in the property records industry. As you can see, PREPs are popping up throughout the country.
I've spent a considerable amount of time over the past week talking to other Registers about planning a PREP for NC. I'm excited that there's an emerging level of interest and believe we'll all work together to make it happen.

Jeff, I want to peronally thank you for bringing the Guilford County Register of Deeds into the 21st century. You've done a great job putting everything online. It's saved me countless trips to the Courthouse for this or that, a true joy.
Question, what's the deal with the Tax Dept? I mean, that 70's green screen program is so antiquated it's ridiculous. Is there ever going to be a tax card migration to GIS tax maps like the majority of other NC counties?

I know that the Tax Department has been looking for a vendor to enhance their own technology over the past year. At this time, I'm unclear on when a selection will be made and an implementation schedule.
But there is good news. ROD, Tax, Planning, GIS, IS, and Community, Development are working together to enhance our GIS dataviewer. Phase I should be finished within a month. Phase II will include TAX CARD INFORMATION with the GIS maps! The timetable for that is 3 to 6 months.
That should be very helpful to you. I appreciate your positive comments and please let us know if you see opportunities for additional enhancements to our system.
Thanks!

Jeff, here's a suggestion. On the Real Estate Lookup page, there is a field named: "Last name or Company Name".
How about adding Subdivision Plat Name to that as well? I wanted to do a plat search by neighborhood and had to call the help line for them to tell me to enter the subdivision name into that line.
Might help others from being confused.
Thanks for your help, and again, you did a great job taking the R/D office out of the micro film days and into the internet age.

I'll look into it.
Thanks for your comment. I'll post what I come up with on this matter.
