It's not that Old Time Religion!
NBC's new show Book of Daniel had a 2 hour premiere last night. I didn't get to watch the whole thing but it's drawing some fire this morning. Daniel's family has issues: daughter selling drugs; brother steals church money, or is it is wife and the other woman? Son's gay, and adopted Chinese son sleeps around. Daniel, the priest, has a vicodin addiction and shares pills with the female bishop. He has conversations with Jesus. It's a bit over the top, but they have pegged the issue of sin pretty well...haha.
This show reminds me of this British show "House of Cards" that viewed politicians in a savery light. In Wilmington, there's an effort to get it taken off the air...
Wilmington Pastor Gary Westra has some concerns about the show, so WECT TV invited him to screen it at their station. He says it's dysfunction junction. "Every person seems to be so fatally flawed. It's almost laughable. It will leave some people sad and others offended," says Pastor Westra.
Wilmington Rabbi George Holland also watched an episode of the show. He says it's not all bad. "At least it does show a positive side. Jesus relates to us and calms us down," says Rabbi Holland.
