Mike Barber for Greensboro City Council- District 4!

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

With the musical chair action in today's N&R, I believe Mike Barber would make a great addition to the Greensboro City Council. As a fellow former commissioner, I served with Mike for four years and hope he gets back into public life. He also has a great new office at the corner of Tate and Market Street near downtown. I can certainly understand why he might pass up a low-paying job with many potential headaches and such. But all and all, Mike's got skills and he should be back in the game and the public will definately benefit.

A clean-shaven Barber (as shown above) would be a good fit for District 4!

  • I agree. We need more elected officials that lean toward the middle and are willing to build consensus and compromise to promote the public good.

  • I like Mike! He'd be a good fit for District 4. You all were voices of reason on the BOC. Good luck to both of you.

  • I am sorry to say I disagree. I do not believe Mike Barber would be a good role model for the City of Greensboro. Someone who is willing to put the city before themselves would be a better match.

Also, Jeff, you were not supported by Michael Barber during the last election. He highly favored your opponent.

  • I stand by my endorsement of Mike Barber for Greensboro City Council.

He'd make a great addition and my opponent lost so no hard feelings!

  • I agree with the dislike of Mike Barber. As someone who has had many encounters with the ex-commissioner, I would have to agree he is nowhere near a good match for the City of Greensboro. It seems as though he has a difficult time separating his personal life from his professional life. Greensboro really needs someone who cares deeply about its future, not their own personal/professional advancement.

  • I don't know what the Greater Greensboro Observer is, but I do know I served on a nameless board here in Greensboro that Mr. Barber was also a member of. He NEVER attended a meeting and I NEVER once heard him speak of it. I have only met him in passing but I know my local politics and I know my city. Greensboro needs people who are dedicated to making Greensboro a better place to live and work. Having your name on a committee but never actually performing work on it, or even attending a meeting do not make you a good politician. I am a democrat and I would rather vote for someone that I know cares about our children and their futures. Name recognition is not what it used to be and I, for one, and glad. I believe Greensboro did the right thing by voting Mr. Barber out of office when it did. Now he is running for another office, one that I might add is significantly more important because it has to do with our children's futures. Mr. Barber only wants to make a name for himself and be popular again. Well, I hate to inform you, Mr. Barber, but your popularity has been long gone for those of us who truly care about Greensboro. Do us all a favor and let someone else run who honestly cares for our children. If you really believed in our school systems, your children wouldn't be attending a private school. Why don't you try to actually experience the Greensboro City Schools before you try to push your opinions on it.

    A very Conerned Citizen.
